New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary has prepared curriculum on Heritage Craft for class 11 and 12 students. The course will start from 2008 – 09. "The course will be optional and will be marked in the Board exams of class XII. We are starting with only 100 schools because teachers opting to teach the subject will have to be given training in the subject. We wanted to give students a good choice of subjects in the higher classes. The course in Heritage Crafts would not necessarily make craftsmen out of students. But it will let art enthusiasts correlate with their tradition", said Jyotsana Tiwari, reader with the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), Department of Education, who designed the course on Heritage Crafts. First this course will be introduced in 100 schools on pilot project basis. The Arts and Aesthetics Department of the NCERT along with the Heritage Craft course, has also come up with a curriculum on Graphic Designing to be launched in the form of an optional subject.
