The US space agency National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has named a minor planet ‘5178 CD4’ after zoology professor Sainudeen Pattazhy. He got received the honor for his out standing contributions in the area of environmental research.
Prof. Pattazhy teaches zoology in a college of Kollam District in Kerala State. Now the planet will be known as '5178 Pattazhy'. US based scientist Rajmohan discovered the planet in 1989. He also researched on the effect of mobile phone towers and the eco-biology of 'holy groves'. The International Astronomical Union has allotted numbers to 185,685 minor planets or asteroids of the nearly 400,000 such items in the solar system.
